Spring Concert - Saturday 27th March
It’s been a long winter, and what better way to welcome Spring than the latest concert from the Hanover Choir. It couldn’t be simpler to get to:
St Stephen’s Church, 5 minutes away from Gloucester Road tube.
Mozart’s Requiem (K.626) is the master’s last and greatest work. Even if you have heard it before, you will find our performance fresh, exciting and dramatic. Is the shadow of death in the music itself? – Let your ears decide!
The second half of the concert is Francesco Scarlatti’s Miserere, a setting of Psalm 51 and one of only 4 of his works that remain from the Baroque period. Scarlatti had genuine world-class talent, but was overshadowed by his more famous brother Alessandro. Despite the title, the Miserere is alive with interesting fugues and harmonies, making it compelling to both experts and casual listeners alike.
The tickets are £10 or £8 if you are unwaged. Tickets are available on the door – but come early to bag the best seats! Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. Drinks are available at the break. The concert will end at approximately 9.30pm.
Performing with the Hanover this evening are Huw Morgan (conductor) Felicity Hayward (Soprano), Polly Hewetson (Alto), Jake White (Tenor), Edward Elias (Bass). Also with us is the Hanover Consort, a perfectly formed chamber quartet to give the whole evening a sophisticated instrumental backing.
